Common household tips and tricks

The next time you have a clogged drain, you don't have to call a plumber to fix it. I will show quick and easy methods to clear your drains. Using simple kitchen staples or common household objects, you can unclog your drains on your own without paying a dime! However, before you start unclogging your drains it is important to know the cause of the clogs. To prevent future clogs,  you should avoid putting food waste, solids and kitchen oils down the drain as much as possible. As regular maintenance you can use the baking soda and vinegar method to keep your sink drains flowing as smoothly as possible. Ask your mom or neighbor how they fix a clogged drain and you will get several methods. This article will cover the methods which make use of common household items and simple kitchen objects.

Clear your Drains DIY

  • Baking Soda and Vinegar; pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain. Follow with 1/2 cup of white vinegar. This will cause an acid reaction. Follow with hot waterbaking soda clogged drain
  • Baking Soda and Salt; pour 1 cup baking soda and 1/2 cup of salt down the drain. Let it sit for a few hours. Follow with 2 cups of boiling water.
  • Coffee ground; Coffee grounds acts like a smooth type of sand. It will clear your pipes and tubes and it can be used for regular maintenance.
  • CokeCoke is really only effective if your drain is completely clogged because it needs a long time to work. If you pour it into a partially clogged drain, it will just pass through without any noticeable effect.Ideally, the drain should also be free of standing water that will dilute the Coke. If your clog meets these conditions, pour an entire 2-qt. bottle down the drain and let it work overnight. Check the drain in the morning, and if the clog has cleared and there is no more Coke, flush it with hot water.
